Why focus on Character Traits in our Job To Joy web site?
Because (1) Skills are learned, (2) Talents are gifts, but (3) Character will do more than either to help or hinder your career goals. As author and motivational speaker John Maxwell says, “Character is a choice… We create [our character] every time we make choices... As you live your life and make choices today, you are continuing to create your character.” Each article in this section will focus on a single character trait that will enhance your ability to succeed in any job or ministry you choose. On top of a bookshelf in my office is a little framed card which reminds me of an essential truth: "Character is who you are when no one but God is watching." Isaiah 32:8 promises "An honorable man makes honorable plans; his honorable character gives him security." (NET.Bible.org) When we are in times of transition, our character matters more than an abundance of opportunities. God seeks men or women of character to use in many ways, whether directly in a ministry or as a lifestyle witness in a secular job. Character matters! Character traits that we plan to look at include: John C. Maxwell, “The 21 Indispensable Qualities of A Leader: Becoming the Person Others Will Want to Follow;” Nashville: Thomas Nelson Publishers, 1999, pgs 4-5. |
